The W.D. of 2011

After 6 months of planning..3 months of casual dressmaking..and 3 weeks of intensive fucking stressmaking..it is now done. The wedding dress of 2011.
(Considerably more work than with my own weddingdress!)

So 6 moths ago we started planning, the bride and I. Since that there has been some changes back and forth but the idea has pretty much been the same: The snow white, lace covered, full skirted princess dress.

First came the underskirt. One layer white cotton with "crinoline-style" tulle netting in 7 rows and finally a thin cotton layer on top. Then the dress. White flowery lace on satin with satin ribbons around the edges and on the short lace sleeves. And to finish it up, a sea-green ribbon to lace up the back!

It was really hard work..but she really looked amazing on her wedding day..and I'm proud to be a part of it!

I must say tough that the stress of a project like this really gets under your skin..everything needs to fit perfectly, nothing can be forgotten and most of all the actual physical strength that goes into holding up, carrying and sewing such a multi layered dress.
I've sometimes felt like that girl with the hay...in the Rumpelstiltskin story.

Next time I'll be planning more detailed and get a lot more information beforehand!

Challenge excepted..!

My own..but still. Quick explanation: some days ago I saw a nice top, but like always I thought about how easily I could make it better, so I didn't buy it. Like always. But since I never actually make it when I think I will I don't really KNOW if I could..hence the challenge. So I went and got some fabric and lace (new even!) and..well, did it.

Adjusted the drawstring to the waist (unlike the original where it was in some kind of weird middle ground), a bit less boob-lace, a little narrower shoulders and a curved "hemline" (if one can call it that on a top..?) and there it is. If the fabric wasn't so stiff (it's seriously impossible to find good fabric when you want it in this town) it would be freaking perfect!

When it was almost done I thought it might be a good idea to remember what the original looked like, so I went back to the shop and pictured it...So this would be my inspiartion:

I'm using it a bit differently in my pictures tough..(just wildly guessing H&M is supposed to be worn with treggings and melon-boobs)  Only because I have a tendency to think of the original, original kind..as in where it comes from. Kind of like this:

So here it is, with a details and all, my slightly modern camisole/corsetcover!  and the skirt is just there cause it's cute..

Finally I want to add that my new friend dressed in my white outfit scared the shit out of my husband yesterday..metaphorically. Boooo...!

..on a side note..that's how it went with that "keeping interest alive "-shit.

..on a renaissance adventure!

While still working hard (in my mind right now) on the commissioned weddingdress I felt I wanted a side thing..something without a deadline and way too out there to be useful for real..so I begun a small Tudor/Elizabethan-outfit-project! Small because it's child sized, not human sized. It's for my soon to be 3 year old. And that's today's story!

Since I'm not really a  fan of either of the 1500's high fashion, I'm going to mix them up a bit lowerclass-style. But basically I'm going for a mid 1500's look with balloon pants, neck ruffle and some other stuff..I'll see where I end up! There's also an idea about maybe making a girl-outfit to match, but there's no one volunteering to model that yet...but it sure would be cool to have that as this years art exhibition!
One piece is already nearly done: the shirt! the only thing missing now is the black work I'm gonna attempt to do. But I must say I'm not disappointed with the try-out-thing I made.
(yes..I do know it's not actually black..)

Lastly, here's my inspiration..First and foremost there is the Tudors! my favourite series. it's just awesome. Death, sex, drama and beautiful clothing..

Then there's some random things..like Shakespeare in love (where I took the shirt from, btw.), Supersisers, and google..! aside from all the thousands of books I've probably already read about it..So now it's time to try it out! always fun to explore a new era really, reeeeeally closely! <3

Oh no, that's not my last thing! I want to dedicate my last sentence to Skruttis, who started her new blogg and then google kept us apart..electronically speaking..she was literally here yesterday.
To Srutt!

"Let me take you down, ’cause I’m going to Strawberry fields.."

part of my field..
..well, almost anyway. I have a field of tulle-netting right here. Seems like everything is covered in snow white tulle.. soon to be a brides underskirt. I have high hopes for this! right now it doesn't look like much though..
some wedding presents
This is the first time of snow white sewing for me..apparently. Didn't even have thread to match. Turns out that every time I've made something white it's been off-white..like cream..or seashell. My wedding dress wasn't even white, it was cream and champagne colored..then again, that wasn't an accident. I'm not a fan of white. And then there was also the obvious non-virginity.

But speaking of my wedding dress.. It has such a nice place to be now! My love, my husband, brought me a present yesterday: a me-sized mannequin! and to try it out I put my wedding dress on it..now it wont have to be hidden away in the closet anymore, yeei! Looking forward to all kinds of cool things I could make on it! It's even dark red..my favorite.

off-white..like always.
And speaking of white..my side project is slowly coming along. I now have my period underwear made out of an old sheet, some left over lace, cute little buttons from my mother-in-law and two badly fitting tops from my post-pregnancy time. And yes, when it comes to my own things I favor the nature friendly recycling and re-using way..so much is lost when you search for new things instead of looking at what is already there. Also it gives things such a used bohemian look!
When I learn how to do white-embroidery I'll write "liberty" on my chemise.

This time I decided to leave out my jumping-around, pale and naked face! just dress this time.

Lastly, before I fall asleep, this is just the cutest thing..My son loves to look into my lit up dollhouses..so I made an older one as a night light.

Good night!

Life in a box

If I had more time I would make lots of these..! a world in a box. This one is a couple of years old.
(in case someone didn't figure it out..the hole is for looking in.)

..too bad it looks kind of crappy on the picture..but you get the idea.

Maybe soon I'll make one for my Lus who is way too fascinated by it for a soon 3 year old.

Seamstress diaies, nr.2

Dear diary!
I'm preparing for the most important project I've ever done for someone else..the fantasy princess weddingdress. Today I am going to start planning the pattern and decide how much fabric is needed for the underskirt. Good Luck to me!
I'm also going to finish up the 1890's shaping corset that goes under my side project..it's the girliest thing I've ever made! for my self I mean..all purple and white-laced.
And finally, but probably not today, I'm gonna make a birthday present for my co-seamstress friend.

Hopefully little Lus will be up for some button choosing today!

But first some sandwich and rose hip tea with my son..

"Change Places!"
